“Healing begins when we acknowledge our inner conflicts and allow ourselves to integrate them into our sense of self.”

My Approach

My name is Damla (Berrak Damla Ciftcioglu) and I’m an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist working with children, adolescents and adults. Taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting and challenging, but it’s also an important act of self-discovery and courage. Whether you're facing a specific challenge or navigating more complex emotions, I’m here to support you through it in a confidential, non-judgmental space.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps you explore the underlying emotions and unconscious influences that shape your thoughts, behaviours, and relationships. This approach focuses on understanding how past experiences—sometimes even ones you may not be fully aware of—can impact the way you experience the present. This isn’t just about managing symptoms; it’s about uncovering the emotional struggles that often feel difficult to express and bringing them to the surface in a safe, supportive environment, towards personal growth and empowerment.

What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Children & Adolescence (5 - 18)

I believe talking to a qualified adult outside their daily life can help children and adolescents understand their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, for example bullying or bedwetting.

Who I Work With

Parents & Care Takers

I support parents who often feel anxious or overwhelmed when they sense a growing distance from their children. They may struggle with uncertainty about how to reconnect and feel powerless in their efforts to help.

Adults (18+)

I support adults in recognising unhelpful patterns and understanding themselves better.  We work towards an empowering journey of growth, for example addressing anxiety, stress or relationship issues.

Qualifications

After completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology, I pursued a master’s in Clinical and Health Psychology. To further enhance my ability to support my clients, I was awarded a scholarship to complete an MA in Child, Adolescent, and Family Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust.

With almost 10 years of experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other special needs, I bring a deep understanding of the unique challenges that can arise in these situations. I also have extensive experience working with a diverse range of clients—adults, adolescents, and families—from various backgrounds and cultures. I have worked with individuals dealing with an array of emotional, behavioural, and psychological issues, including trauma, identity struggles, and complex life transitions.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I hold myself to the highest ethical and professional standards. But beyond credentials, my work is grounded in genuine care and respect for each person’s journey. I understand that therapy can feel like a vulnerable process, and I’m committed to making sure you feel supported and understood throughout our time together.

Whether you’re just beginning therapy or continuing your journey, I’m here to help you explore, heal, and grow with patience and compassion. It’s never too late to start the journey toward a more fulfilling life.
